can corn based fuel serve to reduce greenhouse gas emissions ?

if all the corn grown in the usa were used as food for humans, who then used this energy for commuting (eg running to work) then, even though corn requires fuel to grow (including fertilizer) and transport, it would still be a net greenhouse emission reduction strategy. Even if the corn were still fed to cows, and these were then fed to vegan-eaters (since cows are vegans, in general), it would still be a useful strategy if people used this energy to run errands.

a complete non-fossil fuel cycle, with almost no net emissions, would have humans act like indians, and grow the corn without fossil fuel.
